Hi - I really like your village maps (like New Edor). Was wondering if you can share how you produced your building icons. I like the thatched roof look. Any basic tutorial would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

It's been a long time since I did those Anyway, the basic house shape was drawn in Greenstreet Draw4 (a vector graphics program - you could do something similar in 'adobe illustrator' or the free 'inkscape'). I then took it into photoshop (note that it's originally not drawn in any particular colour as I just needed to be able to select the areas with the wand tool)... ...and I'm pretty sure I selected the burlap tool to add the texture to each of the roof sides (as shown on the right hand side of the first image) and added the chimney details with a simple stone texture. When all that was done I think I probably applied a few filters (the most likely being 'cutout') to get it looking something like the middle picture. After that I could then just bring the whole house into the map of my choice, rotate it as applicable and add a simple bevel and drop-shadow and it's done. Anyway, I think that is roughly how I did it - though I've probably explained it terribly.

Thanks! That was very helpful.
I'm still curious how you got the 3D-ish effect on the final. Did you have mutiple layers for bevel? No matter what I do (lighting, etc) I can't seem to get the roof to have that sloping look.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
