Once again I've been dragged away from updating the website with a new project For some reason I've had the idea to try and get back into warhammer 40,000 (though 'getting back into it' is probably not the best way of putting it as I only ever played a few games, and that was a long time ago). Anyway, I thought it'd be nice to keep track of my reintroduction to the game, and so I've started a basic blog (my first ever one) where I'll be posting pictures and the like as I go along. If anyone's interested here's the link: 101st4th.blogspot.com(note that some of the first posts have 'fallen of the bottom' and can be accessed from the menu on the right hand side of the blog)

Hi Kris, If 40K drives you nuts you could try our Forge of War rules: thegamesshed.wordpress.comThe development group are about to publish the second edition of these rules. They are based on my original set, but made playable through extensive playtesting. You'll be able to use all your 40K collection, and any other SF figures you have as these rules are generic and can be used with any figures. You'll also find a selection of my other rulesets there as well, including Dungeoneer. Cheers, Craig. Cheers, Craig.

I couldn't really say if 40K drives me nuts ...as I've yet to play the latest version (or indeed any version since the old 'rogue trader' days). I just wanted to get a quick army painted (buying cheap models on ebay) - just because I had the time, and I figured it couldn't hurt to have a small army (or two) ready to go in case anyone I know ever wanted to try it out. I guess I should really update the blog and post a picture of where I got to with the painting - though they are all packed away at the moment. I'm kinda doing a similar thing with the LotR game - though those figures can also double up for the soldiers of one of the kingdoms in my D&D world

I'm sort of doing the same thing except with Necromunda. I was able to by a set off of ebay and purchase a few gangs too. The painting is a pain in the ass though.

The painting is a pain in the ass though. I can understand that - which is why I opted for a quick 'dip' method for my imperial guard (basically painted the figures the basic colours and then covered them in a cheap wood-stain - in a similar way to a wash). They don't look great or anything like that, but they're good enough tabletop models in my opinion. Anyway... here's an example of how they turned out: (the guys at the bottom have magnets in their bases and a strip of metal on the larger base - so I can take them off an place them on a narrow walkway if need be)

The minis look good enough. Yeah I read the wood stain article and will be attempting it once I get all of the base colors on. I'm a big fan of washes!
