Is there a shortcut to making the grid? A way other than drawing it out w/ the line tool?

How are you drawing it? ...in photoshop (or something similar) by setting up a grid or guides (choosing snap to grid/guides) and then having the lines automatically 'snap' into place as you draw them?

I'm using Photoshop. I set up the grid no prob & use the snap to feature. I was just wondering if there is an auto-draw for grids or if I have to draw it every time?

Well in all honesty I usually start my images with vector graphics software (Adobe illustrator or Greenstreet Draw4)... and most of the 'tiles' don't really have a line as the stone or wood pattern acts as an inbuilt grid kind of thing. However for some of the smaller maps that I have been doing, they do need a grid - like on this one: www.enworld.org/CrookedStaffProductions/20pix_village_01.jpgSo for things like this I've just made a large photoshop image that only has a grid on it... nothing else. So all I need do is copy this 'grid image' into the picture I am working on rather than having to draw a grid each and every time (if that makes sense). |

My work has mostly been for a hex map, so drawing the grid by hand would be tedious. I used a hex grid generator on the web (http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/) to make the blank grid, and converted the white pixels to transparent to make my basic grid. I then use this grid as one of the top layers in a layered drawing. You could also get some nice effects by making the grid semi-transparent, but I haven't tried that yet.
I use Gimp, since it's free, but Photoshop has layers that are at least as good.
