I've always felt I should give you a big thank you for the Airtha maps. Many years ago, you only had the one map that covered the Stanfolde/Middlond region posted. There was little information about the world itself. However, a friend and I found just than little section of map to be incredibly evocative - it told a story to us just by the location of the towns and ruins. We based a campaign off that one map and it lasted years - probably the best game I've ever run.
It is interesting what completely different takes people can have on things when they only have visual cues to go by. Years later I came back to you site, curious if you had done any more world maps, and discovered the Airtha web pages. Your intended setting was nothing like what I had done. Turns out Airtha was very Tolkien-like while my setting was much more Diablo-like.
In a way I feel kind of bad that I used the maps for different purposes and even now have a retooled setting of the whole Brimden map that is very 4e friendly in a racial menagerie sort of way. I think I'll repay by buying some of your battle maps. Thanks for years of inspiration!

Glad to hear that the maps proved to be useful And yeah, it's funny how folks will use similar images for very different things ...in fact it's kinda cool that you used (and are using) the Airtha maps for your own settings - as it was always my hope that folks would just take whatever bits appealed to them and ignore any stuff that wasn't to their tastes. I'd also like to say thank you for getting in touch ...as it's always great to hear from folks that have got some use out of this stuff (and I have to admit that it put a smile on my face to learn that the original maps saw action in such a long running game).

Using the map again. For a hex-crawl using the Radiance RPG of all things. Keying the map with hex numbers and section grids was not easy.

Keying the map with hex numbers and section grids was not easy. I'll bet ...but hopefully worth it in the end

Hi Kris, Still finding SO much use from the Airtha world map. Your site is a real treasure trove, so thanks again!
One of my players wants to make a dwarf connected to Holl Stórrbál. So, I thought I would ask if you have any info on that town. If not, I am fine with just making it up. But, so much of this game world ties together nicely that I thought I'd ask.
Thank you.
